Juvederm Injections

Juvederm® is an FDA approved injectable dermal filler containing hyaluronic acid. The reason Juvederm® injections have hyaluronic acid because it is a natural substance in the body that has a vital role in the maintenance of skin volume and hydration, joint lubrication and cushioning, as well as eye volume and shape. As you get older, the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen decreases. This increases the appearance of sagging and wrinkling of the facial skin. It’s incredibly hydrophilic and retains water, so it absorbs more than 1,000 times its weight and adds volume to the skin.

There are several products in the Juvederm® family. They all are used to help people address the facial signs of aging. Each product in the Juvederm® line features different bonding and concentrations of hyaluronic acid. The various products are each tailored to target specific problems when injected into different areas and depths. Juvederm® fillers have a smooth, gel-like consistency.

Hyaluronic acid also binds to elastin and collagen, providing essential nutrients to them, which provides elasticity, structure, and volume to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in the Juvederm® dermal filler is not derived from animal sources. It’s biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid and is biodegradable.

Uses for Juvederm®

With aging, skin loses its elasticity and volume which leads to saggy appearance. It can be corrected and visibly improved by Juvederm® injections. Juvederm® is used for lip augmentation, restoring the volume and elasticity of the skin, as a filler for facial wrinkles and folds, facial contouring and liquid facelift.

Some of the most popular areas for Juvederm injection are the cheeks, temple, and lips, and this is to treat volume loss in the skin when we get older. Juvederm is also used to treat smile lines (a.k.a. nasolabial folds), wrinkles at the corners of your mouth, and marionette lines (creases that go from the corners of your mouth to along your chin).

The effect of Juvederm® usually lasts up to a year or more, depending on the individual’s skin and health characteristics, muscle movement, injector’s technique and the facial area where it’s injected.

The combination of neuromodulators (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport) with hyaluronic acid-containing Juvederm® injections prolongs the positive rejuvenating effect. The incidence of side effects of dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid is low. There are a few instances when the use of Juvederm® is contraindicated, so consultation with an experienced, licensed professional will help you understand whether Juvederm® injections will be an efficient and safe treatment option for you. Only licensed and certified professionals are to be trusted with this treatment. Individual results may vary.

Juvederm® injections contain a small amount of pain-reducing lidocaine. This will help minimize any pain or discomfort you feel during treatment and reduce pain after the injection.

Recommendations Before Juvederm® Injections

Simple instructions to follow before your consultation and treatment involve avoiding medication like aspirin, ibuprofen, and St. John’s wort. You’ll also want to avoid alcohol in the weeks leading up to treatment. Smoking is also discouraged before treatment. Avoiding these things can help prevent bruising.
